WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
--Superintendent Dale Lamborn
The 2010-2011 school year will begin for all students, except kindergarten, on August 23, 2010. Kindergarten students will be given an individual screening test during the first days of school. Parents of kindergarten students will be receiving a letter from the teacher with specific information relative to the testing schedule and the start of regular classroom activities. All parents and students will receive a letter from his/her principal and an additional letter from the District with specific information regarding the calendar and the start of school in your building.
Recently education and education funding have received significant attention in the press. Regardless of political affiliation or personal philosophy regarding what should or should not be taught in school; private school, charter school, or public school, the need for an educated citizenry remains a paramount need in our society. “The future belongs to the nation that best educates its citizens.’’
As we prepare students to compete in a global economy, we need to do our best, every day, to make sure we are giving them the best education possible. “An education is not something you just tip your head and they pour it in your ear. You’ve got to want it. You’ve got to reach out and claim the future for yourself.” “I want everybody to understand that nothing is going to be more important to you than just being hungry for knowledge.”
I hope students, staff, parents, and the community at large, begin the school year hungry for knowledge and that the hunger increases as the year proceeds. -Quotes from President Obama
To: Parents, Legal Guardians, Administration, Teacher, and all Patrons of Rich District Buildings:
Federal regulations have required that all schools be inspected for the presence of asbestos a toxic material that has been used in the construction industry for a number of years. Each school in the Rich School District has been inspected for asbestos containing materials and the results of the inspections are contained in an “Asbestos Management Plan.” This plan has been sent for review to the Utah State authority in charge of Asbestos Abatement.
The Asbestos Management Plan includes the results of all the inspections conducted on all of the school buildings. It also contains the results of the material samples which were taken during the inspections and the plans for asbestos abatement.
The Asbestos Management Plan for your individual school is available for review during regular working hours at the School Office. A copy of the Asbestos Management Plan can be made, on request, for a nominal fee to cover the cost of copying and handling.
Recent scientific and medical evidence has shown that asbestos containing material can be harmful to the human body. The Asbestos Management Plan shows the amount of asbestos present in each school building as well as the specific locations of the asbestos. Our District removed life threatening material from all buildings. These actions will significantly reduce the impact that asbestos containing materials can have and thus continue to maintain the standard of safety that is expected of this institution. –Superintendent Dale Lamborn
