PRINCIPAL KIP MOTTA'S MESSAGE
I moved my family to the Bear Lake area thirteen years ago. My children had attended a handful of schools in different states, and I felt they had been exposed to very good educational systems. After the first year of attending school in Rich District, I was very impressed with the level of educational commitment and excellence from the staff, the students, and the community.
During my thirteen years of teaching and administrating in the district, there have been a number of changes made that have allowed this level of educational excellence to continue and improve. There is no question in my mind that we have one of the best educational districts in state and the nation. There are many reasons for the continuation and growth of our academic excellence.
One reason we are a district of success is the leadership and educational foresight of our school board and superintendent. Under their leadership we have implemented a stringent middle school grading policy. We have developed and put into operation the very successful four day school week, and we have put into practice a 7-12th grade drug testing program which is the first of its kind in the nation. These are just a few of the innovations we have started under this leadership.
Another reason for our growing academic success is our outstanding staff. District wide, we have one of the strongest academic staffs any parent would want for their child. The instructors within our district are continually improving their education and their pedagogy through continued college courses, earning higher level degrees, and by attending staff development conferences.
I feel the main reason for our continued academic growth is the level of commitment our students and parents have. The support our students have from home is second to none, and this commitment to excellence will allow our students to continue to achieve educational excellence. Parents often ask me how they can help their student improve their class work, and my first response is to ensure their attendance is extemporary.
It is also very important to keep up with your student’s classroom performance. This can be done by accessing the district’s Student Information System (SIS), which will allow you to see all of your student’s assignments and scores for all of their classes. The SIS can be accessed by logging onto the district’s web site (www.richschool.org) and entering your student’s user name and password. You can get this information from the district office or your student’s school office. Continued on back
We have also added a Home Access to our Accelerated Reader program. This will permit you to see the books read, tests taken, and scores earned by your student. For information on how to access this tool, please contact your student’s school media center or office.
With the strong leadership we have from the school board and superintendent, and with the commitment for excellence we get from staff, students, parents, and community; there is a very bright future for our students’ academic success.
